Fucking Facebook

I was mucking around with my preferences and settings last night. I removed a bunch of apps from my Facebook profile, then decided to delete all the “relationship” and “looking for” fields. It was not a process to which I gave much thought.

The next morning, I had 44 messages, between my Wall, inbox, and email. This is what subscribers to my feed saw:

That was not quite was I was going for.

I did four miles today, which was about one too many. My hamstrings are complaining. My youngest brother, Collie, is here for an impromptu visit.  He took a post-grad  trip to Argentina, and  took a layover in Miami on his way back to Los Angeles. It is awesome having him here.

It’s only because we love you and find you so endlessly fascinating, Sara. :)

You can edit your feed blasts in your privacy settings to keep this from happening again if you like. Since I’m addicted to FB, I just did that for my feeds…

It is mildly creepy how emotionally invested those people are in your change of status. I used to love Facebook; now I think it is just blurring some lines that were better off being a little better defined.

I’m out of practice at getting attention. I think this is why I am having so much trouble writing here. I know that writing this web page, about personal stuff, my life, whatever, gets people interested in my story. So it’s up to me whether or not I’m going to feed that monster. The climate has changed in the last ten years– all the celebrity gossip and crazy press and journal hate forums kind of wear me out.

I’m mostly just kind of embarrassed about all of this, not because of the Internet crazy, but because of the line being blurred on places like Facebook where I have people I grew up with and Internet friends and family all jumbled together.

My deleting that information was not intended to be any sort of statement about my status– it was exactly the opposite. I was trying to deflect the attention.

I need to think about it some more.

Additional thought: I am, though, grateful that people still care. I think that everyone who sent good wishes genuinely had the best of intentions and I don’t want anyone to feel badly about that. This is all on me. :)
