I have a bunch of creditors calling me these days. I tend to pick up the phone every sixth call or so, just to say hello, and to tell them I still don't have the money. Most of them are very nice, believe it or not. I don't know if it's that I'm in New York City, or if it's that I actually speak to them cheerily, engage them in conversation, whatever.
There's one creditor who calls every day. I owe her the least amount of money so, by extension, she's the least scary to talk to. She's on Long Island, near where I grew up, and we've gotten to talking a few times. This morning she asked me if I ever heard of "Save Karyn." Why yes, yes I have.
Says my creditor: "I hope the IRS nails that girl. She's teaching a generation of young women that they don't have to take responsibility for their mistakes."
Amen, creditor.
